How she would be seen on occasion surrounded by three hard looking men with swords That can be overlooked by me because I want the girl to kick some butt I just don t understand why these women let men get away with some of the things they do There is one scene where Jamie says something that arouses her and my reaction would have been a nice slap There are some steamy scenes between Jamie and Eva and he is a nice hunky man with danger in his eyes By the way thinking about Jamie s hotness he is a man who has been in some fights would he have really been that prettyTowards the end of the story I zipped right through it The plot as I have mentioned before unfolds nicely but the romance between Jamie and Eva take center stage I felt tension could have been weaved into the story with Eva In fact there is a huge thing that happens that feels forgotten when the two start hooking upDefiant is a historical romance that has knights swords missing heirs and people to save It is heavy on the medieval speech and narrative Between the narrative and plot I felt stunted at the start of the story but soon grew into it I felt the tension could have been but the romance was steamy frustrating and sweet Beth Guest Reviewer England May 1215Jamie is hoping to catch his uarry a priest Eva is hoping to do the same both for different reasons or are theyThis is a magnificent story in the time of King John the rebellion and Magna Carta We follow Jamie and Eva on a rollercoaster of intrigue betrayal and trust where no one is who we think they are I was hooked until the very last page and it is one I will keep and read over again Loved it Totally fell for Eva and Jamie s story Their attraction is sizzeling and the action is fast paced Some readers didn t like the language but it was not my case And the French is almost faultless the only typo I saw is J su we pronounce it J su but we write it J sus maybe it s the old French spelling I m not sure I would recommend this book to anyone who loves feisty heroines and medieval romance Kris Kennedy has written another exceptional Medieval romance Defiant has the same strengths that made Kennedy s first two books stellar examples of the sub genre a richly storied historically accurate background compellingly developed characters primary and secondary great chemistry between the hero and heroine and superb prose While I found Defiant less emotionally engaging than The Irish Warrior which is tied with Teresa Medeiros s Charming the Prince a very different book as my favorite Medieval romance ever jamie and Eva s story is still a keeper and a book I highly recommend Defiant is going straight onto my keeper shelf It s that good I can t say enough wonderful things about it The dialogue is fantastic the characters are well developed and the pace just doesn t let up I whipped through the book in a day and know that I ll probably read it again in a couple of weeks As far as I m concerned Kris Kennedy is medieval romance these days Okay enough with the gushing accolades the heroine is what makes the book She reminds me very much of Anniue the heroine of The Spymaster s Lady by Joanna Bourne Like Anniue Eva has survived by her wits and the hero is the fir 45 stars I d been craving a good medieval romance and this delivered in spades This book. D to kidnap a rebel troublemaker before enemy forces close in The mission is simple until he comes up against a beautiful mysterious woman who first threatens his mission then his cold black heartBeautiful Eva is determined to find the ‘troublemaker’ too and protect his dangerous secrets even if it costs her life But the blue eyed knight has no intention of lettin.
Is set during the reign of King John just on the eve of Magna Carta The author does a great job of showing readers how unsettled that time was without once engaging in a history lecture Instead she paints a rich tapestry of nobles at odds spies and intrigue desperate folk caught in the middle as pawns in the dispute between king and people and of course the wicked King John himself It s compelling stuffIf ou like a road romance this will definitely scratch that itch for Selected Short Stories you Our hero Jamie Lost is the King s agent He has been ordered to kidnap a troublemaking priest However Eva seeks the same priest for reasons of her own She an Jamie start off at odds with one another as they compete with one another to see who will get to the priest first but eventually they join forces as they see that the larger picture may not be what it at first appeared It s an epic journey across England and the urgency of the trip as well as that feeling of being on the cusp of something big in a historical sense comes right through in the writing The witty dialogue between the leads lightens the tone a bit at times without turning the book into a complete wallpaper romp I got a little frustrated with a few loose ends that could have been tied up better but otherwise I vastly enjoyed myself This one is definitely worth reading Despite loathing nekkid manchest covers picked this up on basis of good buzz and having just reviewed the relevant history fact nuggets of the time period for my boy s school assignments and wanting to hear about it in a entertaining way The author deliveredReally enjoyed the writing style the heroine s refusal to be intimidated or acuiesce to instructions delivered by patronizing andor protective men if she didn t agree with them her total disregard for all things fashionable and especially her memorable manner of speech which reminded me a little of the heroine of The Spymaster s Lady a story which I also loved My uibble apart from intensely wishing for different cover art was Gog Given how he and Eva had lived as a unit for so long Sheath and blade I think was the term there were three points where I had trouble understanding how abruptly he seemed to abandon a li Solid 45 stars here This was excellent Kris Kennedy has a wonderful and uniue writing style She creates wonderful characters with intelligence and charm and a well thought out storyline A hero that is as rough and rugged as they come but canny and sophisticated and absolutely to die for A heroine that is intelligent strong but feminine capable and resourceful She rescues as much as she gets rescued and its done realistically There is no wayou cannot visualize every characteristic of the cast even the bystanders come to life The story had grit and wonderful texture and some of the best dialoguing I have read in a while KK brings Ten Minutes to Fall in Love you into the realm of King John and all the intricate deceit and politics at a such a palatable levelou can feel evening mist in forest and the parchment holding all the damaging evidence against an insane king This is not a heavy novel but it s not exactly a light read either Very enjoyable story of romance adventure and a perfect and rather sexy knight in shining armor I have read only two books of Kennedy s and she is now an auto buy for me Definite recommend. G her succeed and soon it's than secrets Eva must protect it's her heartWhen their uarry is abducted they embark on an epic journey across medieval England unwilling allies in an adventure that will betray the truth about their identities reveal their unexpected loyalties unleash an explosive passion that will seal their fates and the fate of England forever 110K word.
While I am vastly entertained by Kennedy s artful prose and her character s dry wit amidst dire goings on I grew impatient with Jamie and Eva s lack of direction in their mutual uest The reader and every single secondary character knows early on what Eva and Jamie must do but their inexplicable stubborn refusal to Do The Right Thing results in the tale stalling out while they find creative excuses for not getting on with it Still Kennedy s writing is stellar and even though I was a tad annoyed with the meandering I enjoyed their grand adventures as they gallivanted across EnglandSPOILERISHWhen Jamie finally steps up to the plate and claims his destiny my Kindle told me I was at 93% Better late than never Jamie my lad but when our reasoning turns out to be that tired old I m not worthy excusewell I expected from this talented author Still I ll be there for her next one This was one of those historicals that s best read by those who want a lot of intrigue mystery and action with a little romance on the side For me I wanted to see development of the relationship between the two leads instead of so much action and intrigueJame was a bit rough and gruff for my liking Alpha male fans are sure to love him as a hero His treatment of Eva was a bit rough for me at times His kidnapping and overpowering of Eva grew tiresome after awhileThe mystery was all a bit confusing for me for most of the book Part of this could be because of the language of the bookIt was told in an overly proper way that I suppose is associated with medieval language While it s very funny to see a sarcastic comedic line delivered in such hoity toity speech patterns it s difficult to read an entire book written in such a different way I can see literary fiction being successful with this type of language but I think most people picking up a historical romance are looking for of a relaxing readIf ou re into adventure and mystery with an alpha male hero and smattering of hot romance this is the book for Open City youbook sent by publisher in exchange for honest reviewreviewed for Eva is forced back to England to chase after Father Peter who was summoned by King John s orders With her comes the boy Roger who she has played mother to since they fled his homeears ago Eva knows that Father Peter is riding to his death The King sends Jamie to find Father Peter and bring him in Instead of finding the Father Jamie finds EvaThis is a straight up historical romance Even the narrative is stylized for a medieval setting As much as I sometimes enjoy the flowery words sometimes it can feel heavy The first half of the book I spent getting used to it It took a little while and slowed my reading down considerably but I got used to itI think that this book did a wonderful job of pulling Eva and Jamie together The time period they grow from enemies frustrated lusty looks and finally to full blown lovers is short but oddly felt believable The story itself is not a journey but rather felt based on the characters decisions The story slowly unfolds even when I thought it wasn t There is also a great deal of circumstance surrounding the characters Although I enjoyed Eva and Jamie together I sometimes felt as if there bantering slowed the story downEva is a strong heroine especially for her time I have many doubts about.
