Childhood Thank ou C Henry thank ou Wildly imaginative and wonderfully inventive Lost Boy twisted the long standing characters of Pan and Hook from the classic tale to give a new origin story one of how two friends became the life long enemies they re famously known as With skill and finesse Henry s storytelling easily transported me to a wild island where boys never aged one where they could never leave and where the true side of the boy that led them all shone throughHenry brilliantly wove a tale with an underlying of darkness expertly showing the slow progression of insanity that was Peter Pan and the depravities of the island With rich detail and vivid characters there was no fear in showing the unbridled side to boys when left to their own devices and how susceptible they were to attention It was poignantly bloodied but incredibly moving and emotional Every moment of the story carried with it a deeper meaning crossing reality with make believe and jealousy with love And Jamie before he took to his famous moniker was at the center of it all as Pan s favorite token from the Other Land the longest on the island His character was deeply rooted and clearly written flickering between his devotion to the Lost Boys and his love for the boy who brought him there It became impossible to not be wrapped up in himLost Boy was darkly clever intricate in every way and so different from any version before it but brilliant nonetheless Words cannot express how much I adored this version how easily it fit into the character we ve always known and how its effect alludes explanation If ou re looking to be thrilled and charmed and twisted I can not recommend this tale enough This book isn t as good as Christina s Alice and Red ueen stories but it s still a great read Whereas the Alice series probably shouldn t be read by anyone Insectissimo! younger than around 17 I felt that Lostboy could be read by a slightlyounger crowd There s still blood and gore and fighting but not like in the Alice story Overall this was a great book and I can t wait for Christina s next novel It was the image that led me to the story I ve always been interested in Peter Pan but never watched itread it when I was Fields of Fire (Frontlines, younger I saw this and was strangely hooked The author takes everythingou know about Peter and Captain Hook Jamie and flips it on it s head but in a way that is believable and brings about a whole new storyBe prepared to never think of Peter Pan being a kind boy who helped small orphan boys enjoy the life of immortality be prepared to love Captain HookPS You don t need to know anything about the original Peter Pan to enjoy this book Oh wow Just wowAfter reading the Alice trilogy I was left wanting of Christina Henry s immersive books I bought Lost Boy a couple Redeemed (The MacKays years ago for my Pan loving sister for her birthday but never really took any notice of how much she raved about it at the time I bought it for myself recently and WOW How is this tale not a movie Can someone please make the movie I may be a little bit dim in the fact I didnt realise who the character was telling the tale and ruined that part for myself while reading about it online so when that part in the book came it didn t hold the same impression that it perhaps would have done had I not read it elsewhere But this is by far my new favourite book and I m gutted I finished it with nothing else to pick up afterwards It really really needs to be a movi. ScoveryI loved Jamie as a main character he was brave and kind but I liked that he was also flawed He wasn t pure he got angry and he was violent and this made him feel real Most of the other characters didn t have much backstory or play a critical part in the story I will say this by way of a warning don t get attached to anyone reading this because Christina is merciless and there is a lot of deathThe main storyline itself is slightly predictable and I was expecting a bit of a twist I also wasn t really a fan of the open ending it felt like the author had tried to stay true to the background and timeline of the original Peter Pan tale and I much preferred the way she d twisted everything on its head in AliceRed ueen where I honestly didn t know what to expect of the characters we know so wellI would still recommend this to fans of Christina s writing or of Peter Pan retellings I love them personally By far the best book in Christina Henry s fairytale retelling series which has now earned a place on the top shelve of my bookcaseAbsolutely loved this book devoured it in one sitting The characters were written beautifully pacing was excellent and the story was chef kiss c est magnifiueThe love I have for this book I don t think anything I say will truly express the love I have and the rage that I had while reading thisThis book will make ou feel things mostly anger and rage The pain that this book has inflicted on my heart I like it I want My ThoughtsFirst this book captured my attention by reading a great review by Forever Lost in LiteratureSecond lets talk about how beautiful the cover of this book is It s pure eye candy I LOVE It I bought it on my Kindle but I m almost tempted to pick a hard copy of it up at a book store just to have it on my shelfWho doesn t love a new twist on an old fairy tale I m going to be completely honest when I say the story of Peter Pan has always creeped me out a little bit The idea of a boy just showing up climbing through windows and whisking children away to an island where they never grow up is weirdsurely there s strings attached AND this story reveals that there certainly are strings are attached As I raced through the story the old saying of If something sounds too good to be true than it probably is kept echoing through my headI love that this story comes from a different point of view an unexpected character in the famous story of Peter Pan Captain Hook This is the story of how Captain Hook becomes Peter Pan s greatest enemy I don t want to reveal too much of the story because it s a fantastic adventure with a different perceptive that was eye opening Do ourself a favor and pick up a copy I couldn t put it down I know that Christina Henry has also written a novel based on the tale of Alice and Wonderland I will definitely be picking it up I want I read it in a flash I absorbed it like This is in my mind the true story of Peter Pan the narcassistic as children are center of his own island world populated by an unending stream of unfortunate boys none so than the very first Through layers of lies half truths spite and general selfish meanness the main character emerges into himself separate from Peter taking on all the adult responsibilities that Peter refuses to but are reuired to run a kingdom nothing is lost knowing the ultimate ending as one does from the cover A gorgeous tale of what it takes warts and all to maintain forever. Them do grow old and nobody knows why One of these boys is called Jamie and he was the first boy that Peter ever brought to the island Jamie's lived there for longer than he can remember and it's not all fun and games Peter thinks the boys are replaceable that if one dies or grows up he can swap in another from the Other Place th.
I don t usually do alternative tellings of old stories I really don t know what possessed me but I am definitely open to being possessed again Lost boy is just not what I expected at all It is such a fun and intriguing little story We follow the lost boys in Neverland told from the perspective of Captain Hook It is definitely darker than most other re tellings of Peter Pan and it manages to reinvent an old story without it feeling tired and unimaginative It is a standalone novel something that I found really refreshing in a time were everything is a 345 book series It is short fast and utterly addictive I recommend it wholeheartedly This is in much the same vein as Wicked in so that it takes a well known cherished childrens tale and shows the true ugliness of it all But not in a way that is horrendous No it shows the ugliness and reality of all stories in that there are always than one side to the story And that history and even fairy tales are told and kept by the victor Christina Henry takes the innocent actions and whims of a child and turns them into a harrowing and cathartic tale of how even the best intentions can destroy and how the worst moments can hold true granules of humanity and the beauty and savagery of growing upIf ou like delving into a timeless and classic tale woven with both joy and heartache both in eual measure then this is definitely a tale ou should revisit unless of course American Blues you wish to never grow up I haven t been able to read any of Henry s previous work though I m a sucker with anything remotely having to do with Peter PanThis book was simply fantastic Written from the point of view of Hook himself I believe this is one of the original stories about the origins of the rivalry of Hook and Peter I myself pondered writing a story like this but this book has done a far better job than I could ever do I will be reading of her work It s a dark dark tale with echoes of Lord of the Flies lawless children left to literally fight for power and the privilege of basking in the attention of the charismatic child who will never grow up Peter Pan The author does not flinch from exploring the crueller aspects of childhood especially in the form of the utterly selfish Peter whose mind games deceit and narcissism gradually reveal themselves to Jamie the lost boy of the title Violent bloody and thought provoking this version of Neverland is hellish and hopeless Jamie s journey from being Peter s first chosen playmate through to his incarnation as his sworn enemy is also a metaphor for any relationship that dies when the truth of its hollow heart is revealed Having loved Christina Henry s Alice Red ueen books I couldn t wait to read from herThis was just as dark and brutal as the Alice duology which I loved however it didn t uite have the same immersive uality as the other booksI disliked Peter from the get go which I think is the point but i felt so strongly about him that it actually made it difficult to read He was selfish cruel and careless treating the Lost Boys like disposable toys which I suppose they were to himThe book takes place in Neverland but I didn t feel like we got to explore much of it We don t get to board any pirate ships or visit the mermaid lagoon all we really see is the tree that is their home and a little of the rocky terrain nearby This took away the sense of adventure and journey that the Alice books had and it lacked a feeling of di. The author of Alice takes listeners through a dark tale of Peter Pan who turns his best friend into his nemesis Captain Hook On an island lives a boy called Peter and his band of merry lost boysoung forever That is unless they get sick or killed by pirates or eaten by crocodiles or unless inexplicably they grow old For some of.
